Cam Hong Le saw a picture of a bag that inspired her to try to make it herself using only a hammer and a small nail to make the stitching holes. After Hong completed the bag, she couldn’t believe how much she enjoyed it. Hong started teaching herself more about how to work with leather.
Since Hong was working with remnants of leather, she let the pieces inspire her designs. She found the unique raw edges, scratched marks, holes, and branding on the leather was like putting puzzle pieces together, but in an abstract kind of way.
Hong’s handbag collection, Cam by Cam, was accepted into the 2013 West 18th Street Fashion Show in Kansas City, Mo. In 2015, Hong was asked to be a guest at the Illinois Institute of Art – Schaumburg for a leather workshop. That same year, Halfstack Magazine showcased the Cam by Cam collection alongside the Fermented Fruit clothing line, by Eli Borrowman, in their 2015 Summer issue.
